In partnership with The Alligator's Mouth
The Alligator's Mouth is a specialist children's bookshop at the heart of the local community in Richmond, a suburb of London. Our mission is to reach all readers: the confident, the beginner, and the reading-resistant. We often work with local schools, providing events or stocking libraries. In the past we have welcomed Jacqueline Wilson, Chris Riddell, Cressida Cowell, Oliver Jeffers and Axel Scheffler among many others. We won a Time Out Love Local Award for best Richmond shop in 2016 and we were shortlisted for The British Book Awards Children's Bookseller of the Year 2017 and 2018, as well as being nominated for British Book Industry Awards Individual Bookseller of the Year 2018. Our Alligator's Mouth Award for Illustrated Young Fiction was won in 2019 by Nick Sharratt with Nice Work for the Cat and the King and in 2020 by Adam Stower with King Coo and the Curse of the Mummy's Gold. The award is a celebration of books which use text and illustrations to help children gain reading confidence before moving on to the longer works of junior fiction.
